Is there a prescribed by-law on renovation in Singapore condos?
No. The 21 prescribed by-laws in the Second Schedule to the Building (Strata Management) Regulations 2005 cover matters such as noise, alteration or damage to common property, fire hazards and the duty to maintain the lot, but none is headed renovation. Renovation rules, deposits and working hours come from additional by-laws or house rules that each MCST makes under section 32 of the Act, which must be passed by special resolution and lodged with the Commissioner of Buildings to take effect.
