Can I hack a wall in my condo unit?
Only if it is non-load-bearing and outside the household shelter, and the MCST approves. Load-bearing walls, columns, beams and slabs are structural elements and form part of the common property under the Act. Altering them needs a Professional Engineer, BCA structural plan approval and a permit, and MCST authorisation because the works affect structural integrity. Many MCSTs prohibit hacking structural elements outright in their by-laws.
