Who can replace windows found defective during the PFI?
BCA requires replacement windows to be installed by an approved window contractor, registered under workhead RW01, or by a GB1 or GB2 licensed builder, using a trained window installer. Contractors submit a certificate of completion within 14 days of finishing the works. For casement windows, BCA asks that aluminium rivets be replaced with type 304 stainless steel rivets.

The fuller picture
After BCA accepts a PFI report, the owner must carry out the Competent Person's recommended repairs within the period BCA specifies. Make unsafe areas safe first, then repair by defect type: sealant, cladding, glazing, spalling concrete, corroded fixings, hollow tiles or windows. Structural repairs need plan approval, a permit and PE supervision; completion is certified with photos.
