Does my renovated house need SCDF fire safety approval?
Fire safety works in a detached, semi-detached or terrace house are exempt from SCDF plan submission if the house does not exceed 3 storeys or 3 levels, including basement and attic, and does not share any facility with another building. The exemption is conditional: you must appoint a Qualified Person who designs to the Fire Code, supervises and certifies the works, and you must keep the plans and certificates. A house that grows beyond 3 levels falls outside the exemption.

The fuller picture
In Singapore, landed house works stay A&A only within URA's limits: added floor area up to 50% of the existing approved GFA, and no more than 50% of external walls or structural floor area replaced. Anything larger is lodged as reconstruction or new erection. Extensions, attics and basements need URA planning permission and, where structural, BCA plans and a permit through a Qualified Person.
