What happens if SCDF finds problems at inspection?
If SCDF selects the TFP or FSC application for inspection and finds problems, they must be rectified and the application resubmitted, which delays occupation. Where works do not comply with the Fire Code or the Act, SCDF can order them stopped, corrected or demolished, and failing to comply with such an order carries up to S$100,000, 12 months' jail, or both. Fire hazards found during enforcement checks can lead to abatement notices, notices of offence and prosecution.

The fuller picture
Under Singapore's Fire Safety Act, fit-out works that touch fire safety — partitions affecting exits, sprinklers, fire doors, ventilation, change of use — need SCDF plan approval through a Qualified Person before work starts. Small works in buildings with a TFP or FSC can be lodged for S$90 within strict limits. After approved works, a Registered Inspector must certify them before SCDF issues a TFP or FSC.
