Do event tents and stages need a Permit To Use?
Not always. Tentage is exempt if it is used for no more than 60 days, covers no more than 2,000 m² and no element spans more than 18 m. Stages are exempt if used for no more than 7 days for a wedding, entertainment, funeral or religious ceremony, but the exemption covers only the base platform; lighting trusses, LED screens, backdrops and roofs may still need a PTU. Exempt structures must still comply with relevant building regulations.

The fuller picture
Outdoor signs in Singapore are licensed by BCA under the Building Control (Outdoor Advertising) Regulations, amended from 2 November 2026. A Permit To Use, applied for by a Professional Engineer, is needed before licensing when a sign over 10 m² sits on an advertising structure, or the structure exceeds 10 m² or reaches 4 m high. Owners must keep signs securely fixed.
